Sigh…I think I’m losing interest in pokemon.
I guess it’s because I’ve become bored with how blatantly calculated pokemon is that it’s feeling stale. I love pokemon’s concept but I’d honestly be more interested in new pokemon-like franchise. The concept is a great one but pokemon does not want to step to far out of it’s comfort zone and who can blame them? Think of how many interesting stories we could have gotten from the world of pokemon. I think that’s what makes me sad. There is so much potential for cool stories but the game and anime are kind of limited by how far they can go with their formula. While it’s cool that they can experiment with the manga and side games I can’t help but long for a game where you can capture monsters and go on a big adventure. I guess I’d like to see someone take the pokemon concept of capturable monsters and have more freedom with it. Maybe someone already has but I was so attached to pokemon I wrote it off as a pokemon clone. Maybe it’s time I go trying these “pokemon clones” and giving them a fair chance.
I will still admire and love pokemon and it holds a place in my heart but I can’t become as hyped for it like I use too. Even after being really smitten with greninja, the jump to 3D and my favorite gen getting a remake I could not maintain interest in pokemon very much. I’m not sure if I’ll play the next game yet but I am pretty much am done with the anime. The improvements in X and Y holds promise. That said the anime does not interest me right now.
There is so much you can do with the pokemon concept and be honest pokemon is never going to do more with it. They found a formula that works for them. People like that and I respect that. It’s just not doing it for me right now.
